To celebrate the success of the full-competition 100S, Austin-Healey offered an upgraded road version : the 100M. This car received many modifications from the 100S, with raised power from 90 to 110 bhp offering much better performance then the standard 100/4 and even the later six-cilinder cars. To achieve this power increase, this model had a high-lift camshaft, along with larger SU H6 carburettors and a free flow intake manifold. Also a distributor with special advance curve and a cold airbox were fitted. Other upgrades included larger anti-roll bars and a louvred 'Le Mans Specification" bonnet with leather strap. Only 640 real M's were constructed by the factory, and another 519 "M kits" were supplied to the dealers and retro fitted to existing cars. The proper factory 100M versions are now very sought after, and do come rarely on the market.

Our example is a real factory-produced 100M, finished on the 30th of November 1955 and shipped to the USA on the 7th of January 1956. The car was painted in Old English White with red trim, just as it is now. It resided in California until 2000, and was then a running survivor in remarkably solid condition. The car was completely restored in 2005-2006 to original specification, and is still in fantastic condition. It comes with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate confirming it is full matching nrs and in the same colour combination as it left the factory. More importantly, it also confirms that this Austin-Healey is one of the genuine factory built 100M "Le Mans" cars. The car is also listed in the 100M "Le Mans" Registry, maintained by William Meade. A beautiful and rare extra is the factory hardtop which comes with the car. It is beautifully finished and suits this 100M very well. Furthermore, this Austin-Healey comes with a FIVA A/2 passport, and has participated in the 2012 edition of the Mille Miglia. The car is fully serviced and ready to go anywhere.

Only a small number of the original 640 factory 100M cars are remaining (estimated at less then 150...), so a genuine example is now considered as the most desirable of the production Austin-Healeys. This example is in fantastic condition, has all its numbers matching and did participate in the Mille Miglia : it does tick all the right boxes ! An exceptionally interesting car to add to any worldclass collection.
