Alfa Romeo GT 1300 Junior "Scalino" (1968).
Original car in exceptional condition.
The GT 1300 Junior was the entry model to the Alfa Romeo coupe range. It was introduced in 1965 as the replacement for the 101 series Giulia Sprint 1300, which was the final development of the Giulietta Sprint series. The GT 1300 Junior was fitted with the 1290 cc twin cam engine (as fitted to the Giulietta series cars) but revised for the 105 series with reduced port sizes and other modifications. The power output of 89 bhp was very good for such a small engine. The smaller engine was introduced in order to allow buyers to choose an Alfa Romeo coupe while avoiding the higher taxes on the models with larger engine capacity, especially in Alfa Romeo's home Italian market. The GT 1300 Junior remained in production for over a decade.
This particular car is an example of the first series, with the "Scalino" or step-nose bonnet. It features the flat dashboard, as only fitted to the early cars. It has been in a French Alfa Romeo collection for many years, and was meticulously maintained by its previous owner. This Junior is NEVER restored, and is in unbelievable condition. The interior is completely original in black vinyl, and all details are still correct on this car. The shutlines are perfect, as you would expect on a car which was never restored. Some years ago, the Alfa was repainted in its original colour, but all the rest of this matching nrs car is as it left the factory 45 years ago. The engine runs very sweet, and the gearbox changes are as slick as on a new car. This little Junior sits on the correct 15 inch wheels, fitted with skinny Dunlop Racing 5.00 x 15 tyres. There is also a nice history with the car, with older invoices, a logbook of the use and a taxation report.
Original cars are difficult to find in a similar rustfree condition, and driving this excellent Alfa Romeo shows exactly how a period correct sixties sportscar should behave on the road. This is a car with a huge fun factor, and one which fits every classic car collection.
