The Mercedes W107 (or ‘R107’ SL Roadster) was produced from spring 1971 through to August 1989, and to this day boasts the longest production run of any three-pointed star. The R107 SL took the chassis components of the mid size W114 saloon and mated them to V8 engines derived from the S-Class saloons, resulting in a chassis with double-wishbone front suspension and a semi trailing arm rear axle, plus recirculating ball steering – and a lot of power. It was essentially a two-seat convertible with fabric soft top and a complimentary hardtop as standard. Mercedes-Benz manufactured 237.287 examples in these 18 years of production, and around two thirds of those were sold in North America.

The quite exceptional example we are offering for sale is one of these USA models. Delivered new in sunny California in 1985 to its single owner until 2021, always pampered in the best possible way and still in unimaginably beautiful original condition. The car is still completely in first paint (Champagner 473), and the leather interior in Dattel still looks fantastic. This Mercedes 380 SL looks and drives like a year-old executive car.

The car was ordered with the following options :

440 Tempomat
470 ABS
494 California specification
504 Electric mirror passenger side
519 Mexico Grand Prix radio
531 Automatic antenna
581 Climate control + electric windows
805 MY1985

All documentation from new is still with the car, and even every single sticker from the factory is still present. As it is a MY1985 car, it has the double row timing chain which makes it much more reliable. The original hardtop comes with the car as well, and it is in the same immaculate condition as the rest of this gorgeous Mercedes.

In 2021, the car was imported in Belgium and received a full service including a new soft top in original brown mohair. The 380 SL has done 3.000 miles since, and is still in excellent condition and ready to be enjoyed.

This is a two-owner car in unseen original condition, and definitely one of the best Mercedes cars ever made. It feels rock solid and looks absolutely stunning in its gleaming Champagne paint. This rustfree Californian 380 SL is probably one of the best R107's on the market, and ready for a new owner.
