Some say that the Jaguar E-Type Series 1 1/2 offers the best of both worlds : the sleek bodylines of the Series 1 E-type (except from the closed headlights), and the refinement and driveability of the later Series II. And that is absolutely right. The seats are adjustable and comfortable, and the driving experience is definitely an improvement compared to the early versions.

This matching nrs example was delivered new in the United States in November 1967, and was exported to Denmark in 1986. The Danish owner undertook a full restoration of the car and kept it until 2011 when it came to Belgium. It was a very nice example with perfect shutlines and fantastic paint quality, but the belgian owner decided to transform his E-Type into the ultimate driving machine. He spent in total over 38.000 EUR on the car to make it better, and this is all documented with many invoices.

And indeed, it is now the ultimate driving machine : I have never driven such a fast and sporty E-Type ! First of all, the engine received the triple Weber treatment, in combination with "fast road" specification camshafts and a stainless steel sport exhaust. In the meantime, the complete engine was overhauled and all seals and hoses were replaced. Also the cilinderhead was converted to run on unleaded fuel. The result was a 4,2 Litre engine with more then 300 bhp. To get the maximum out of this powerful engine, a Getrag 5-speed gearbox was fitted, and also the clutch and flywheel were replaced. The original 4-speed gearbox, as well as the original carburetors are still with the car, so it remains matching nrs and reversable to original specification. Brakes were overhauled and semi-competition wheels were fitted with 215/65R15 tyres.

Driving this E-Type is a spectacular event. It sounds fantastic and it is really powerful and very fast. Shifting through the 5 gears is a delight, and the steering is sharp with the right amount of weight despite the wider tyres. It looks gorgeous in its red paint, and the beautiful wheels fill the wheel arches just perfectly. This is an E-Type which drives like a gentlemans racecar, but without losing the charm and comfort as one should expect from a Jaguar. A wolf in sheeps clothes, and probably the finest E-Type I have ever driven !
